No. I didn't get attacked by a cougar.
I am still with you all.
It's just that it has been SO busy and I haven't really had that much to share with everyone. Except, that is, for the cougar story. One person asked me to elaborate on the cougar, so here goes...
For those of you who don't know, I am staying at a friend's while she is away and she lives very close to the local university which has a large forested tract of land of which a chunk of it is protected as an ecological reserve. For most of the summer, I have been at the mercy of a seriously reduced-service transit system so I had to work around the buses to ensure that I would get to work on time. However, with the start of the new school year, buses were much more convenient and with the weather being nicer, I walked to the uni bus exchange which meant that I had to walk through the pathed area of this forest. To do this, I descended down the stairs on my side, walked across a bridge over a large stream and then up the other side to the exchange.
The first day was fine although I swear that I heard something large walking through the brush at the time. I calmed myself down by telling myself that it was probably a squirrel (of which there are thousands) or a dog or something. Surely there will not be any large carnivorous animals walking through there. I quickened my pace a little though and was quite relieved when I emerged on to open parking lot on the other side. I gave myself a really bad time for imagining this creature in the woods.
The next day, more confident and less worried, I walked through the same area. I emerged on to the parking lot to find the trail marked by a large yellow tape and a sign that told people not to enter due to a cougar sighting. Now, I didn't stick around to see what time it had been seen instead, high-tailing it to the bus. I don't know what I would have done if it was the morning before. However, what distressed me most was that the entrance on the other side of the trail was not marked therefore labelling me "cougar bait" if the creature was still there.
Nevertheless, I haven't walked through the trail since and thank goodness I will be returning home next week.
So there you are, my tale of the cougar. I hope you don't think me too big a wimp because of it.
As for any other news, there isn't much. I did find out that I know someone who had a brush with Prince Charles and Camilla at her son's wedding this past weekend. It appears that he did the bride's hair...
That's it for me for today. Take care!
